御祭神 大綿津見命（おおわたつみのみこと） 須佐之男命（すさのおのみこと） 御神徳 海上航行の安全・漁業繁栄・家内の安全・病気の平癒・学業成就・安産等々 御由緒 今から千八百十年ほど前、第十四代仲哀天皇の二年に、神功皇后、西国へ御下向の際、この浦に御寄泊になり、 大綿津見命を祀られ、海路の安全を祈られたことに始まる。 鞆祇園宮（須佐之男命）の鎮座起源年代は不詳 旧社格 国幣小社 縁起式内社 例祭 ５月２日
この神社は『大綿津見命』をまつる渡守神社と『須佐之男命』を祀る祇園宮がいっしょにまつられています。 平安時代につくられた『延喜式』という法令にも記載されている古い神社です。 渡守神社には神功皇后が武具『鞆』を奉納した伝説があり、海上安全祈願の神社です。 また祇園宮は無病息災を祈願する神社です。そして、京都の祇園宮・八坂神社はこの祇園宮から移されたともいわれております。 『お弓神事』（旧暦１月７日に近い日曜日）と『お手火神事』（旧暦６月７日に近い土曜日）は、福山市無形民族文化財に指定されています。 The Nunakuma Shrine Consists of the Watasu and Gion shrines. The Watasu shrine is dedicated to Ohwatatsumi-no-mikoto, the god of the sea and one prays here for marine safety. The Gion shrine is dedicated to Susanoo-no-mikoto and here one prays for perfect health. The Nunakuma shrine is noted in the Engishiki, a historic code of regulations. According to legend, Empress Jingu offerd her "Tomo" or archer's leather arm guard, to the Watasu shrine. It is also said that the Yasaka shrine in Kyoto is an offshoot of the Gion shrine. "Oyumi Shinji", the Shinto archery ritual, is held on January 7th of the lunar calendar or the nearest Sunday. The "Otebi Shinji", a fire ritual, is held on June 7th of the lunar calender or the nearest Saturday. Both rituals are designated as Fukuyama City's folk cultural assets. 境内 案内板より
